Students brave the chill to take part in mini-marathon

Event held to promote career fest, beginning today

Jalandhar, December 18

Hundreds of school and college students today participated in a mini-marathon, organised by the district administration. Though the temperature remained as low as 4°C, the participants were full of enthusiasm. The event was organised to promote and give a healthy start to the Spark Career Guidance fest, slated to take place from December 19 to 20.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder K Sharma, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, flagged off the mini-marathon from the Guru Gobind Singh Stadium. Despite the severe cold, hundreds of students participated in the event. The rally culminated at the same venue after passing through Chun-Mun Chowk, BMC Chowk, Namdev Chowk, Skylark Chowk, Guru Nanak Mission Chowk and Milk Bar Chowk.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner said to disseminate the message of healthiness to the masses, especially students, the district administration had organised the mini-marathon to promote the career guidance fest in the city. He said the aim of organising the event was to disseminate the message of healthy and drug-free state.

The Deputy Commissioner said besides grooming career of the students, the fair also aims at promoting good health of students. The fest, to be held on the premises of the Guru Gobind Stadium on December 19 and 20, would also ensure the holistic development of the overall personality of the students, for which sporting, cultural and other events by the students had been carefully amalgamated in the schedule of the fest.

Sharma said the administration had already made elaborate arrangements to ensure that students did not face any sort of problem.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrate Vineet Kumar, tehsildar Tapan Bhanot, district guidance counsellor Surjit Lal, Lt Col Manmohan Singh (retd), district sports officer Gurpreet Singh, district youth services Officer Jaspal Singh Sahota and district coaches Umesh Sharma and Harjinder Singh Waraich were among those others present.
