Students take unity pledge, join ‘Ekta March’ to honour Sardar Patel

The Jalandhar Unit of the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, organised a special Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) at Doaba College on National Unity Day. The event was dedicated to the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India and a key architect of national integration.

The programme, coordinated by Dr Pardeep Bhandari, Principal of Doaba College, aimed to instil the spirit of unity, integrity and national security among the youth while commemorating Sardar Patel’s invaluable role in unifying India.

Assistant Director CBC Rajesh Bali administered the unity pledge to students, reaffirming their commitment to the nation’s unity and integrity. This was followed by a spirited “Ekta March,” with students raising slogans of “Ekta Zindabad,” echoing Sardar Patel’s ideals across the campus.

To bring the life and legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel alive, artists from the Song and Drama Division of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting presented an engaging skit depicting key moments from his life, highlighting his unwavering resolve in integrating princely states and his vision for a united India.

Adding a visual dimension to the celebrations, a photo exhibition on Sardar Patel’s life and achievements was organised at the college, attracting significant interest from students and faculty eager to learn about his leadership and patriotism.

The event also featured a cyber security awareness session conducted by Jagjit Kaur from the Punjab Police Cyber Wing, who guided students on safe digital practices, online fraud prevention, and responsible social media use. District Lead Bank Manager MS Moti addressed students about Central government schemes related to banking and start-ups, encouraging youth to seize opportunities.

Further, another skit sensitised students about social vices, focusing on issues such as drug abuse and health awareness. To make the programme more interactive, CBC organised a quiz on Sardar Patel’s life and contributions, with winners awarded on the spot.
