Adding a unique twist to the summer holidays, Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain has assigned students a meaningful task aimed at transforming society for the better. This inspirational and socially driven initiative encourages students to become torchbearers of transformation and use their vacation time to contribute positively to their communities.

DC Jain has directed all students from government, private and aided schools across the district to participate in this campaign. Alongside their academic holiday homework, students have been given a special assignment: to bring about a positive change in society through simple, impactful actions.

“Summer vacations are undoubtedly a time for fun,” said Ashika Jain, “but if we use this time to bring about a meaningful change in ourselves and our surroundings, the impact can last a lifetime. The purpose of education goes beyond bookish knowledge — it’s also about becoming responsible citizens.”

As part of this initiative, students are encouraged to take up small social responsibilities in their localities — be it their mohalla, street, or village. Suggested activities include conducting cleanliness drives, helping the differently-abled, conserving water and electricity, planting and nurturing trees and participating in other public welfare efforts.

To showcase their contributions, students are requested to record short videos of their work and send them to the district administration’s WhatsApp number 7380090643 or upload them to the official Facebook page “Charhda Suraj” by June 30. These videos will serve not only as documentation of their hard work but also as a source of inspiration for other children.

To further motivate students, the Deputy Commissioner has announced that those who perform outstandingly will be honoured at a district-level function, along with their teachers and parents. This recognition will not only celebrate the students’ efforts but also encourage them to stay engaged in social activities in the long run.

Ashika Jain emphasised that the initiative is a step toward steering students toward social service, extending their learning beyond academics. “This program will enhance children’s personalities and instil a deep sense of social responsibility,” she said. “It’s an important step toward making summer vacations more meaningful and nurturing a mind-set of positive change among the youth.”
