Surya Enclave Extension: Senior citizens meet Jalandhar Improvement Trust chairman
Jalandhar, January 21
Senior citizens who were allotted plots in Surya Enclave Extension met Jagtar Sanghera, chairman of the Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT), demanding the release of their long-pending dues amounting to Rs 8 crore.
Expressing dismay, the allottees criticised the persistent failure of the Trust to comply with the directives of the district, state and national consumer commissions regarding the refund of their money.
The total outstanding amount for three housing schemes – Bibi Bhani Complex Scheme, Surya Enclave Extension, and Master Gurbanta Singh Enclave – stands at Rs 23 crore, including principal amount, interest and compensation mandated by the consumer commissions. The specific amount owed to Surya Enclave Extension allottees, primarily senior citizens, is Rs 8 crore.
Jatinder Mohan Sharma, a senior citizen, pleaded for the release of dues, emphasising their decade-long struggle for justice. He highlighted the deteriorating condition of these housing schemes, plagued by illegal encroachments and anti-social elements. Sharma lamented the loss of fellow senior citizens who passed away while awaiting justice and the return of their funds.
“Many of us are already above 65 and are being harassed by the JIT for several years. We want our dues promptly,” Sharma said.
Manohar Lal Sehgal, another allottee, voiced frustration over being compelled to make frequent visits to the JIT office and courts in pursuit of his hard-earned investment. Even after over a decade, neither the previous nor the present government had shown any willingness to deliver justice. Sehgal demanded that the JIT promptly clears their dues and compensates all allottees.
Meanwhile, the JIT chairman asked the delegation to compile a list of senior citizens with pending dues. He assured them that the amount would be released at the earliest.
