Take benefits of free legal service: Sessions Judge

District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman District Legal Services Authority Dilbagh Singh Johal held a meeting with members of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) today. The District and Sessions Judge gave instructions to run the schemes related to NALSA in a smooth manner. He reviewed the free legal services provided by the District Legal Services Authority and said the residents should take maximum advantage of it.
The District and Sessions Judge asked the district administration that the dependent certificates to the wards of persons killed in road accidents should be issued as soon as possible, so that the compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the dependents of the deceased under ‘Compensation to Victim’ can be given on time. Apart from this, he directed the police to send FIRs of the cases registered under the POCSO Act to the authority, so that the victim can be compensated under the Act.
The District and Sessions Judge said revenue benches will also be formed in the National Lok Adalat to be held on March 9, so the departments concerned should be instructed to send maximum number of pre-litigation cases in addition to electricity, water supply, municipal corporations and municipal councils, banks etc. He said all types of revenue, labour, traffic challan and less serious criminal cases will be heard in the National Lok Adalat on March 9.
He said from January 25 to February 27, pan-India campaign for identifying juveniles in prisons and rendering legal assistance has been started in Central Jail, Hoshiarpur, on the theme of ‘Restoring the Youth’. He instructed the district administration to properly implement the scheme launched to help the needy prisoners.
Meanwhile, District Legal Services Authority secretary Aprajita Joshi informed that the DLSA had provided legal assistance to 408 people and legal advice to 163 people during the quarter from October to December 2023. Apart from this, the authority resolved 13 cases in mediation and conciliation centre and 11 cases were decided on the spot through camp court in Central Jail.
