Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Talwandi Madho village, around 31 km from district headquarters, is to get new multipurpose hall, three classrooms and a sewage treatment plant (STP) based up on Seechewal model soon.

Giving the details, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Kulwant Singh who himself had studied in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Sangrur and Muktsar districts, said MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh would be approached for the issuing the grants under the MPLADS scheme for the new projects.

The ADC said a detailed project report would be prepared about construction of three new classrooms, a multipurpose hall, junior science laboratory etc. He said to check the problem of sewage choking, an STP would be developed for which the MGNREGA funds could be utilised.

He said for other issues like, installation of new water coolers, replacement of window panes, installation of floodlights, raising boundary wall, more chairs for the students, a letter would be written to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Chandigarh, for the release of funds.

He gave necessary directions to the principal and other members of the committee to complete all formalities as soon as possible to avoid any inconvenience to the students. The ADC told the members that he would talk with SSP Rural to depute PCR teams for the security of the students around the Vidyalaya.

He also inspected smart classrooms, food mess, playground and labs during his visit. The school offers free education, boarding and lodging facilities to the students besides ensuring holistic development of the students through wide cultural exchange programme. He said the school, run by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, is equipped with ultra modern computer labs to impart hi-end computer education to the students.

Singh, who got nostalgic during his visit, also talked with the students and interacted with them about the career options in various fields. He detailed them about the opportunities in engineering, medical, science, agriculture and commerce and exhorted them to make their parents and country proud by achieving feats.
