A 26-year-old man was reportedly killed following an altercation between youngsters during the Guru Ravidas Parkash Utsav celebrations here last evening.

The incident occurred around 12.05 am at Guru Ravidas Chowk when a minor dispute between two friends took an ugly turn. The deceased was identified as Sarabjit Singh, alias Cheema (26), a resident of Abadpura.

The SHO, Police Division 6, Surjit Singh, said the suspect, Neeraj, after losing temper over an argument with the deceased, called his brother and his friends on the spot, who later brutally attacked the victim with a knife. The suspect stabbed Sarabjit in the neck. Afterwards, he was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors referred him to Johal Hospital, where he breathed his last this morning.

The SHO said the deceased, who was a tattoo artist, was in a critical condition when he was taken to Johal Hospital. He had received grievous injuries on his neck and forehead.

Meanwhile, DCP (investigation) Gurmeet Singh, said today that all suspects had been identified and a case under Sections 302, 147 and 149 of the IPC had been registered against them. The suspects had been been identified as Neeraj and Suraj, both residents of Abadpura, Kundanlal, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, Jogi, a resident of Hoshiarpur, and Sahil and Gopal, both residents of Basti Sheikh. Sahil and Kundanlal were reportedly arrested today and further investigation was on, the DCP said.
