Jalandhar: An inter-college/school tech-fest ‘Tech-Symphonic 2024’ was organised at Lyallpur Khalsa College Technical Campus in which students from various colleges, institutes and schools participated and showcased their talent. The occasion was attended by Jaspal Singh Waraich (Joint Secretary), Sushil Kumar Rinku (Member of Parliament) and Jarnail Singh, Divisional Forest Officer, Jalandhar. The events which were organised were fashion show, rangoli competition, salad-making, treasure hunt, on-the-spot photography, solo dance, group dance (Western/folk), best-out-of-waste, LAN gaming, business plan, circuit debug, project display, cad hunt and collage-making. Students from 20 colleges and 10 schools participated in the event. Among colleges, Innocent Hearts Group of Institutes stood first and LKCTC stood second. Among school and polytechnic colleges, Mehr Chand Polytechnic stood first and Central Institute of Hand Tools stood second.
Talk dwells on climactic events
The Environmental Science Sustainability Cell at DAV Institute of Engineering and Technology (DAVIET) in collaboration with IIT Roorkee organised an expert talk led by Pallavi Kumari on ‘Extreme climactic events and assessment using hydrological models’. Pallavi Kumari, a PMRF and PhD scholar at IIT Roorkee, delved into hydro-meteorological extremes, focusing on drought and the role of accurate data in modelling. Dr Sanjeev Naval, Principal, DAVIET, praised Pallavi Kumari’s expertise and the collaboration’s impact on advancing scientific knowledge. The talk left a lasting impact on students, faculty and researchers, emphasising the importance of timely and accurate data for sustainable water resource management.
Workshop for Punjabi educators
Ivy World School held a daylong ‘Teachers learning development and creativity programme’ for the Punjabi language teachers, to keep them abreast of the latest techniques in pedagogy. A one-day ‘Learning development and creativity programme on life skills, attitudes and values, health and well-being education’, addressed by Gurdip Singh Bhambra, an educationist, focused on learning techniques and creativity. A celebrated curriculum developer, Bhambra highlighted that creativity can develop outside of the classroom and teachers play an indispensable role in maintaining and encouraging its continuous development. Around 25 teachers attended the workshop. Director Aditi Vasal said, “As long as teachers don’t act as learners, they can’t keep themselves abreast of the current pedagogical developments.”
Periodic lectures at dav college
The Postgraduate Department of Hindi, DAV College, organised periodic lectures sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, Ministry of Education, Government of India. In two days, four periodic lectures were delivered. Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar, along with Prof Sandeepna Sharma, Head, Department of Hindi, Dr Vinod Kumar, programme coordinator, and other faculty members extended a warm welcome to the resource persons. Dr Lallan Singh Baghel, Assistant Professor, Department of Philosophy, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Prof Rajinder Kumar, Head, Department of Hindi, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda, delivered a lecture on the topic ‘Philosophical contribution of contemporary thinkers’. Dr Kashmiri Lal, Assistant Professor, DAV College, Chandigarh, delivered a lecture on ‘Philosophy of man and environment’.
Inter-college contests at Hans Raj
Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised an inter-college competition ‘HMV-Utsav’ under the leadership of Principal Prof Ajay Sareen. Over 150 students from 20 institutions across Punjab participated in the event. The students showcased their talent across 10 competitions, which included debate, quiz, poster presentation, RJ hunt, shutter bug, extempore, idea pitching, ad mad show, on-the- spot writing and software development. The overall trophy was lifted by PCM SD College for Women.
