Strengthening its resolve against the use of polythene bags and reinforcing its commitment to sustainable urban living, the Phagwara Municipal Corporation (MCP) today inaugurated a “Mobile Thaila Bank” at Cinema Road, near the Damodar Dass temple. The initiative, launched under the broader theme of the Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign, was led by Dr Akshita Gupta, Commissioner, MCP.

The Thaila Bank has been introduced to promote eco-friendly alternatives of polythene bags by providing residents with cloth and jute bags.

Designed to make sustainable choices both convenient and affordable, the stall ensures residents get to purchase cloth bags for their daily shopping at minimal costs.

Dr Gupta emphasised that the campaign against plastics was a collective responsibility. “The fight against plastics is not merely an administrative task but a community mission. With the Thaila Bank, we aim to make sustainable living simpler and more practical for every resident,” she added.

The stall forms an important component of the MC’s ongoing “Say No to Plastic” campaign, which has already included awareness drives, school outreach activities and widespread distribution of eco-friendly alternatives.
