Phagwara: Two unidentified masked men looted goods, including gold ornaments and cash, from a house at Kot Rani village near Phagwara. As per reports, the suspects entered the house and thrashed a woman, Rekha. They looted goods worth more than Rs 4 lakh. The woman said her husband was away at the time of robbery. Wine, cigarette shops looted

Phagwara: Three unidentified car-borne armed miscreants looted a wine shop near the city police station. The masked robbers looted cash worth Rs 50,000 and liquor worth Rs 20,000 at gunpoint from an employee, Bittu, of the wine shop. On a complaint lodged by Bittu, the police have registered a case under Section 379-B of IPC. In another incident, unidentified miscreants burgled a cigarette shop at local Mandi road. The burglars entered the shop after breaking open its locks and took away goods worth thousands. The police have registered a case. OC

PO lands in police net

Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO), who was absconding for the past nine months. Station House Officer (SHO) Dhaminder Kadian said the accused had been identified as Vishal Nahar, a resident of Sianni Wal village. The SHO said the accused was wanted in a case of assault registered in 2017 and was declared a PO in 2023. Assistant Sub-Inspector Rannjit Singh was conducting further investigations. OC

Woman, minor child go missing

Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police have registered a missing report in connection with the disappearance of a woman and her child. Investigating officer (IO) Bhajan Singh said the victims had been identified as Shivani (22), a resident of Padda Colony, Lohian Khas, and her four-year-old child. The IO said a missing report had been registered. OC

RSS leader passes away

Jalandhar: A former state office-bearer of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh Devendra Gupta (88) passed away during treatment at a private hospital in Jalandhar on Wednesday. Even though he was brought up in Qadian, he started with his duties in the RSS at Jalandhar after having obtained his B.Ed degree from a college here. As a pracharak, he served in Jalandhar, Kangra, Bathinda, Batala and Amritsar. He served as a teacher in a college of Sathiala in Gurdaspur and later as principal in AB College, Pathankot. Having remained as a functionary of the RSS at the district level, he was a part of the state team later. The RSS leadership has condoled his demise.
