Threat letter, live cartridge found outside showroom

A threatening letter and a live cartridge were found outside a cloth showroom, Karma Fashion, near Basti Adda chowk here yesterday morning.

The letter, penned in Hindi, addressed to Shikhar, owner of the showroom and a city-based businessman, contained ominous warnings. Signed with the initials LB and GB, the letter hinted at their calls being blocked, societal insults, and more if what they were asking for was not done. Alongside the letter lay a live cartridge, ominously referred to as a “gift” that could be used to harm Shikhar’s family if they failed to comply with the sender’s wishes.

Upon the discovery of the letter and the live cartridge by the showroom’s security guard, the matter was reported quickly to the owners. They alerted the Division No. 4 police that promptly reached the spot to investigate the matter.

Raghav, a close family friend, while talking to the media, revealed that Shikhar had been receiving threatening calls for the past one month, but they initially ignored it thinking it to be cyber fraud. However, the arrival of the letter turned the situation into one of concern, causing distress to the family.

Meanwhile, initial suspicions pointed towards extortion bid and potential gang involvement, with LB possibly representing the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. However, Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, while talking to Jalandhar Tribune, dismissed these claims, suggesting that the perpetrators might be individuals acquainted with the family.

The Police Commissioner emphasised that the language and content of the letter indicated personal animosity rather than organised criminal activity. He assured that the police was diligently investigating the case based on the information provided by the family, and vowed to apprehend the culprits responsible for the threat, ensuring that justice is delivered.
