The 9th India International Deaf Film Festival, hosted by CT Group in collaboration with the Deaf Leaders Foundation, concluded on Sunday. The three-day festival, which began on Friday, was supported by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), marking a historic first for North India.

The festival brought together deaf filmmakers and students from across the country, including participants from the southern, northern and northeastern regions, as well as international entries.

A diverse selection of films was showcased across various categories, including short films of 1, 5, 15 and 30 minutes, with a special emphasis on international films under 15 minutes. Awards were presented for categories such as Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Editing and Best Studio.

Dignitaries present at the event included Jalandhar Mayor Vineet Dhir, Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board Advisor Deepak Bali, former BJP MP Avinash Rai Khanna and other prominent figures. CT Group’s leadership, including Chairman Charanjit Singh Channi and Managing Director Manbir Singh, reaffirmed their commitment to inclusivity in arts.

Speaking on the occasion, Channi emphasised the importance of providing platforms for under-represented communities, while Mayor Vineet Dhir lauded the festival as a significant step toward empowerment and inclusivity.

“The festival is a remarkable step towards inclusivity and empowerment. It is heartening to see such a platform being provided to the deaf community, allowing them to express their creativity and talent,” he said.
