Three of family consume poison, die

Three members of a family — Avtar Singh, his wife Sonia and their 16-year-old daughter — have reportedly died by consuming poison at Mallpur-Adhhka village near Nawanshahr.

An altercation between husband and wife was said to be the reason behind the step. It was reported that Sonia and her daughter took the extreme step in the presence of Avtar, who also consumed the substance after the duo fell unconscious.

Sonia and her daughter were admitted to a private hospital in Nawanshahr in a serious condition, but could not be saved. Avtar was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Meanwhile, Amarjit Singh, Sonia’s brother, alleged that Avtar was a habitual drinker and used to abuse the family members.
