In compliance with the directives of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh, a special checking drive of school vehicles was conducted in Nawanshahr today under the “Safe School Vehicle Policy.”
The inspection was carried out under the supervision of District Programme Officer Jagrup Singh with cooperation from various departments.
During the inspection, school buses from Cambridge School, Doaba Public School, Cambridge Public School, Tagore Model School, KC Public School, and Shivalik Public School, among others, were checked. In total, 24 school buses from 11 schools were inspected for compliance with safety norms.
As part of the drive, three school buses were challaned for violating provisions of the Safe School Vehicle Policy — one for the driver not wearing a seat belt, another for lacking a valid fitness certificate, and one for having expired medicines in the first-aid box.
The checking team sensitised school bus drivers about the mandatory safety requirements, emphasising that strict legal action will be taken against vehicles not adhering to the Safe School Vehicle Policy. Regular awareness efforts are being made to inform school principals and bus drivers about key safety measures, including installation of CCTV cameras, iron grills on windows, a proper first-aid box, presence of a lady conductor, driver in school uniform, seat belt usage, and prohibition of overloading students beyond the bus capacity.
