Phagwara: High velocity winds and rain on Sunday threw normal life out of gear in the city. The ferocity led to the uprooting of trees and electricity poles resulting in power cuts in many areas, some didn’t receive power supply even after midnight. Meanwhile, disrupted supply of electricity for several hours on Monday was also reported. Not just power, water supply was also hampered and there were problems in the telephone connectivity. Dr Puneet of Hargobind Nagar said many trees fell on electric wires due to which the power supply was snapped. Another resident Vishwamittra Sharma said there was no electricity for several hours even after midnight. Reportedly, employees of the Power Department managed to restore the supply in almost all areas but only in the wee hours. Signboards and hoardings were also blown away by the storm and high velocity winds. OC
