Torture: Mother, son booked

Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Ranjana Devi, a resident of Thalla village, near Phillaur, the Satnampura police have registered a case under Sections 315,316 and34 of the IPC on Tuesday night against her husband Vijay Kumar and mother-in-law Bimla Rani on the charge of torturing the complainant. The victim was beaten up mercilessly at her-in-laws’ house at Darveshpind village in the Phagwara subdivision on May 18. Satnampura SHO Usha Rani said the victim said she sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Phillaur Hospital by her parents but was referred to the Phagwara Civil Hospital later due to excessive bleeding. The SHO said the victim had to face misscarriage after six months on Monday night at the local Civil Hospital. OC

Phagwara: Members of the Punjab Young Peace Council, headed by Ashwini Kohli and Ashwini Dasour, on Wednesday honoured SP Manwinder Singh, DSP Surinder Singh Chand, SHO Onkar Singh Brar, for discharging their duties as frontline warriors during the Covid-19 crisis at a function. The members of the council also honoured Traffic in-charge Ranjit Singh Virdi, ASI Amarjit Singh and Surinder Singh, who set an example of honesty by returning a purse containing Rs 1 lakh to a woman a few days ago in the town.
