Jalandhar: A three-day residential educational programme/training on ‘Effective Office Management Skills’ under Centre for Continuing Education started at Dr BR Ambedkar NIT for non-faculty of the institute. The course commenced with lightening of ceremonial lamp by the chief guest Prof LK Awasthi, director NIT Jalandhar. The coordinator of the programme Dr S K Mishra, registrar, briefed the highlights of effective office management skills. Prof Awasthi stressed upon the need to get the record of their daily activities and motivate the participants to do their duties carefulliy. The course witnessed the participation of around 50- 60 staff members from various academic institutes across the country.

‘Vijay Divas’ celebrated

Phagwara:‘Vijay Divas’was celebrated at MLU DAV College, Phagwara on Monday. Principal Dr Kiranjeet Randhawa acquainted the students that every year “Vijay Diwas” was celebrated on December 16 to honour the martyrs who attained martyrdom during the Indo-Pak war in 1971.Remembering the brave soldiers and every member of the Army, the countrymen pay respect and salute the brave souls, added the principal. Eulogising the heroic deeds of armed forces of our nation on the 48th anniversary of the ‘Vijay Diwas’, students prepared posters, messages and recited poems. The young learners also delivered speeches to mark the occasion.The young orators enlightened the audience with the history of the day. December 16 is a significant day for the country and its neighboures, including Bangladesh and Pakistan that resulted in the birth of Bangladesh.On this day 48 years ago, Pakistan lost half of its country, its forces in the East and had to surrender before India. It was also the largest military surrender after World War II, students said.—OC

Educational trip

Jalandhar: Sanskriti KMV School undertook a two-day annual trip for its students to Delhi. Rachna Monga, principal, heading the group of students and teachers, visited the President House and the Parliament House. Students witnessed the winter session of the Parliament and got a chance to meet some officials. The visit infused the students with respect and knowledge for the presidential and parliamentary set up. Students observed the Change of Guard ceremony at the President House and took an understanding of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha proceedings in the Parliament. They also visited other historical places like Qutub Minar, India Gate and other places.Metro rides and shopping time added to their fun.

Paper-reading competition

Jalandhar: Students of Innocent Hearts brought laurels to the school by bagging prizes in the different events organised by District Child Welfare Council. Bhavini, a student of Class IV, Green Moel Town, won the first prize in paper-reading competition. The second prize was won by Aradhya from Loharan Branch. The third prize was achieved by Jannat from The Royal World International School; under the aegis of Innocent Hearts. All the first three positions were got by the students of Innocent Hearts. In skit competition, the third prize was won by Innocent Hearts, Loharan. The first prize and the overall trophy was won by Innocent Hearts, Green Model Town. These competitions were organised at Red Cross Bhawan and winners were awarded by the Deputy Commissioner and other dignitaries of Jalandhar. Dr Anup Bowry, secretary, Innocent Hearts, congratulated the winners and motivated them to excel at the state-level also. The winners of the overall trophy in skit competition were Ananya Sharma, Ishaan Jindal, Mehak and Daksh Gupta. Winners of the third prize were Yagya Sharma, Gavish Puri, Muskan and Malya.

Faculty development programme

Jalandhar: A six-day faculty development programme being organised in Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering commenced on the topic ‘Latest trends in teaching pedagogy’, in association with Punjab Technical University, Kapurthala, Netsmartz, Red Hat, Network Nuts and Computer Society of India. On the first day of FDP Dr DS Rao (Director, LKCE) welcomed the dignitaries, guests and participants. Chief guest of the day Dr Balkar Singh (director, academic branch, IKG PTU, Kapurthala) gave the inaugural address. Dr R K Gupta (Guest of Honour, Vice-Chancellor, Maharaja Agrasen University, Solan) also addressed the audience stating the importance of teaching pedagogy. Amongst various resource persons, session 1 was headed by Dr Akshay Girdhar (keynote speaker of the day) from IT department of GNDEC, Ludhiana. Around 90 participants from various institutes participated in the first day of the event.

Day of reconciliation

Jalandhar: Eklavya School, Jalandhar, shared the information with students about South Africa’s public holiday known as the ‘Day of Reconciliation’. It acknowledges the significance of December 16 to both the Africans and liberation struggle traditions. Social Science Educator Ashima shared the information that it is a day of great significance in South Africa. Students at Eklavya School celebrated the day by walking in unity with staff behind their flags and a special banner around the back oval. The theme for the ceremony was ‘Don’t keep history a mystery: learn, share, grow’. The children recited poems and gave speech on the Reconciliation Day. A student, Rachel, told the assembly that reconciliation means working together as one and supporting each other. All classes were given the opportunity to make posters in a collective group activity.

Alumni meet

Jalandhar: BD Arya College organised its Alumni Meet an agglomeration of alumni from diverse background who made their way back to their college to enjoy a glimpse of their youth by reviving and rejuvenating their old memories and moments. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by principal Dr Sarita Verma welcoming the alumni with her compassionate words and mentioned the object of holding the meet. She highlighted the major role alumni plays towards the developmental regime of the college and about the multiple accolades that the college has brought so far. Furthermore, alumni after sharing their experiences assured all kind of help, support and co-operation for the betterment of students. TNS
