The working of the Municipal Corporation, Phagwara, has been paralysed for the past few days. It is learnt that though 21 officials, including MC secretary, XEN, inspectors and even chief sanitary inspectors, have been transferred, only three could join in their place. Also, while 30 officers are working in the MC, only a subordinate staff of 15 was provided to them.

In the bureaucratic reshuffle on July 7, the state government transferred 21 IAS and 47 PCS officers; however, Phagwara failed to get a new Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM). The post has been lying vacant since the third week of May after the transfer of then SDM Kulpreet Singh. Though the additional charge of Phagwara was given to the Kapurthala SDM Jai Inder Singh, he has also been transferred to Jalandhar. The post of Bholath SDM has also been lying vacant for the past few months.
