Jalandhar, July 24
The NHAI today repaired the caved-in portion of the Rama Mandi flyover.
A news item, appeared in The Jalandhar Tribune, yesterday highlighted the caving-in of Rama Mandi and Dakoha flyovers.
The news report also raised safety concerns of commuters, demanding swift action from the district administration. After a conversation with the correspondent last evening, DC Himanshu Aggarwal immediately informed the NHAI Director, asking him to get the damaged flyover repaired promptly.
Early Wednesday, an NHAI team arrived at the Rama Mandi flyover to inspect the area and repaired the caved-in section of the flyover, ensuring the safety and smooth transit for the daily commuters.
Initial assessments suggested that the cave-in might have been caused by leakage in an underground pipeline. However, officials said a comprehensive investigation would be conducted to determine the cause.
A commuter said, “The cave-in could have led to a major tragedy. We are grateful that the issue was highlighted and promptly addressed”.
While the threat at the Rama Mandi flyover has been mitigated, the NHAI’s attention has now turned to the Dakoha flyover. Teams are assessing the damage and the repair work would commence shortly.
