Tributes paid to Sikh warrior on 307th birth anniversary
Hundreds of people gathered today to pay tributes to the great Sikh warrior and founder of the Kapurthala state, Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia, on his 307th birth anniversary. The royal family, headed by Brigadier (Retd) Sukhjit Singh Ahluwalia and his son Tikka Raja Shatrujit Singh Ahluwalia, organised an Akhand Path at the State Gurdwara, which was attended by a large number of people from all walks of life.
Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was born in 1718 in the village of Ahlu, now located in Pakistan. A valiant warrior, he fought numerous battles against the Mughals and was instrumental in liberating 2,200 Hindu girls from the clutches of Mughal ruler Ahmed Shah Abdali. After defeating Abdali, he escorted the girls back to their homes, showing remarkable courage and compassion.He also played a crucial role in the conquest of Delhi from the Mughals, marking another major milestone in his legacy.
The royal family has been celebrating his birth anniversary every year and has organised a Kirtan Darbar in his memory for many years.
