Jalandhar, July 21
A bike rider died today in an accident near the Verka Milk Plant on the Jalandhar-Amritsar highway. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of Division Number 1 police station. The deceased has been identified as Veeru Gautam, a resident of Gulmohar Colony here.
According to reports, Veeru had refuelled his bike at a petrol pump near the plant when a truck coming from behind hit him. The impact of the collision proved to be fatal, resulting in his death.
Eyewitnesses immediately alerted the police and Sadak Surakhya Force (SSF) personnel besides officials from Division Number 1 police station arrived on the spot.
Police said the body has been sent to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination. Meanwhile, the truck driver responsible for the accident fled the scene. The police have begun investigations in the case and are reviewing footage from CCTV cameras in the area to gather more information and trace the absconding truck driver.
