Trust pays tribute to Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh on death anniversary

On the 25th death anniversary of Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh, the Punjab Chapter of INTACH honoured the legendary soldier, known for his leadership during the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War. At a small gathering, Maj Gen Balwinder Singh VSM (Retd), Punjab State Convener of INTACH, described him as a “Son of the Soil” and a “soldier’s general,” praising his strategic brilliance in defending India’s northern borders.

Born in 1913 in Badrukhan, Punjab, Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh served with distinction in World War II and later as Western Army Commander during the 1965 war. His leadership in the Battle of Khem Karan was key in halting a major Pakistani offensive. By flooding sugarcane fields to trap Pakistani tanks, he ensured a decisive Indian counterattack.

INTACH plans to organise talks across Punjab to educate the youth about Lt Gen Harbaksh Singh’s life and contributions, ensuring his legacy endures.
