Two Activa scooters stolen

Phagwara: Two Activa scooters were stolen here on Wednesay. One scooter bearing No (PB-09V-0798), belonging to Kamal Kishore, a resident of Daddal Mohalla, here was found stolen from in front of a crematorium at the Phagwara-Hoshiarpur Road on Wednesday. The victim went inside the funeral ground to attend a funeral but found his Activa stolen when he came back. The police have registered a case under Section 379 of the IPC. An Activa (PB-36F-7999) belonging to Naresh Kumar of Akalgarh village resident was found stolen from in front of a sweet shop in local Hargobind Nagar here on Wednesday. The victim went to the shop and found his Activa stolen on his return. A case under Section 379 of the IPC has been registered. OC

Armed men loot liquor, Rs8,000

Dasuya: Bike-borne men looted Rs8,000 and two bottles of liquor from a vend at Sundiyan village on Thursday night. According to information, more than five persons came on three bikes to the liquor vend at the village around 9:30 pm. They pointed a revolver at the vendor, identified as Hardeep Singh of Nangal Bihalan village, and threatened him. Thereafter, the miscreants looted Rs8,000 from the cash box and two bottles of liquor. Hardeep told the police that as soon as the miscreants arrived, they opened fire in the air and threatened him. The police have started an investigation into the incident. OC

Students shine in karate league

Jalandhar: Students of CT World School brought laurels to the institution by winning medals at Pro-Punjab Karate League organised by the Karate Association of India in Amritsar recently. Jashanpreet Singh Saini, Gurveer Singh and Adhvay Nair bagged gold while Angad Lakha won a silver medal in the championship. Earlier, school students proved their mettle by winning medals during the Punjab Budokan Karate-Do Open Inter-School Championship and Second Youth National Games. Jashanpreet said, “Besides performing well in studies, I am fortunate that I have got good training in sports.” Madhu Sharma, principal, CT World School, said the sports curriculum had been designed for students to develop and enhance their strength, speed and endurance. She lauded the efforts of the students for performing well in sports.

One booked on fraud charge

Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by Jaswinder Ram of Barna village, the police have registered a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC against Parwinder Kumar of Kashi Nagar, Phagwara for duping the complainant of Rs18 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. The victim told the police that neither the suspect could send him abroad nor returned his money. No arrest has been made so far. OC
