The Phillaur police, headed by DSP Sarwan Singh Bal, have arrested two youths in connection with an armed assault that took place in the Bilga area on the night of June 10.
Acting on the directives of SSP Harvinder Singh Virk and under the supervision of SP (City) Paraminder Singh Heer, the arrests were made as part of a special anti-drug and anti-crime campaign.
DSP Bal told newspersons today that unidentified assailants had conducted a recce and then opened fire outside the residence of Jasvir Singh, a resident of Burjkhela village, with the intent to intimidate or harm his family.
A case was registered at the Bilga police station following the incident.
DSP Bal said during the course of investigation, a police team apprehended the two accused from Moga district on June 16.
The accused have been identified as Bikramjeet Singh of Kamalke Khurd, Luvpreet Singh of Sangla village, Moga.
Bal disclosed that the police recovered a 7.65 mm pistol, two magazines, seven cartridges, a motorcycle, and two mobile phones. The recovered weapon and materials are believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
Both accused were produced in judicial court, Phillaur, and remanded to one-day police custody for further interrogation.
