Two arrested for stealing goods from schools during lockdown

While the Covid-induced lockdown proved detrimental to almost all, two persons in their 30s, had made most of the pandemic by ransacking locked up schools and stacking things meant for pupils’ education. The Patara police arrested two persons and seized a large number of goods stolen from schools. The suspects were active in Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur areas.

A house full of goodies, including ACs, inverters, sofas and even playway swings and rides were found with the suspects named Harpreet Singh, alias Happy, a resident of Mukhliana village in Hoshiarpur and Sandeep Singh of New Geeta Colony, Jalandhar.

Both were nabbed by the district rural police at the Kangniwal village while they were riding a bike with a sack full of stuff.

SSP Jalandhar Navjot Singh Mahal (Rural) said, the police stopped them and apprehended them. Upon checking two LEDs and a projector speaker were recovered from them. Meanwhile, a huge hoard of LCDs, gas stoves, cylinders, computers among other equipment were also recovered. Both had stored these items at a rented accommodation in Jandu Singha village. Harpreet confessed his involvement in over 18 theft cases, the police said.

A case has been registered under Sections 457 and 380 of the IPC at the Patara police station. The police recovered three LCDs, three LEDs, five gas ovens, one water filter, one computer set, one fan, 18 inch computer screen, nine gas cylinders, two ACs, one inverter, one UPS, three DVD players, one refrigerator, a sofa set and four chairs.

The police were investigating the case. The suspects were produced in a court, which sent them to police remand.
