The Kapurthala police registered two separate cases of the NDPS Act after recovering small quantities of heroin during routine patrol checks. Both accused were arrested on the spot following due procedure.
ASI Naveen Kumar and his team were patrolling near the old grain market close to Kapurthala railway station when they noticed a youth approaching from Bullpur. On spotting the police, he turned back and threw a small object into nearby bushes. The individual was apprehended and identified as Joga Singh, a resident of Purani Dana Mandi, Kapurthala. The discarded packet contained 10 gram of heroin. He admitted discarding it out of fear. A case was registered, and he was taken into custody.
In another operation, the police set up a hi-tech naka near Goindwal Sahib bridge turn under Talwandi Chaudhariya jurisdiction. During vehicle checking, they intercepted a scooter coming from Goindwal Sahib. The rider, Sukhjeet Singh of village Mank Deke, appeared nervous. A transparent packet found in his pocket contained 5 gram of heroin. The scooter and contraband were seized, and a case was registered.
