Hoshiarpur: The Mehtiana police have booked two persons (mother-in-law and husband) for allegedly torturing their daughter-in-law and demanding dowry. Rajdeep Kaur told the police that she got married to Jabninder Singh, a resident of Shankar village in 2011. She alleged after her marriage, her husband and mother-in-law Amarjit Kaur, began harassing her over dowry. Rajdeep alleged as she could not meet their demand, the duo allegedly threw her out of the house. OC

3 nabbed with contraband

Hoshiarpur: The police have seized a large quantity of contraband and nabbed three smugglers on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, the Mahilpur police had laid a naka in the their jurisdiction and apprehended Vijay Kumar, alias Bhatti of Behbalpur, and Sanjeev Kumar, alias Ghungru of Binjhon. During search, cops found a large quantity of intoxicating pills from their possession. In another incident, the Garhdiwala police have arrested Sukhwinder Singh, alias Honey of Bhana, with 38 grams of narcotic powder from him. The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act. OC

Internet wire stolen

Hoshiarpur: Amarjit Singh, a resident of Nandachaur, told the police that thieves stole four buffaloes from his cattle shed. In another incident, BSNL employee Harpreet Singh told the Dasuya police that Baljit Singh, a resident of Kotla, stole around 300 metres of internet wire. The police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the IPC. OC

Three held for illegal mining

Hoshiarpur: The Mukerian police have nabbed three persons for alleged illegal mining in Khanpur village and seized a sand-laden trailer on Friday. The accused have been identified as Amandeep Singh, a resident of Gilllda, Hardial Singh of Himmatpur and Manjeet Singh of Tanda Ram Sahai. An earth mover and an empty trailer was also impounded. The police have registered a case on the complaint of Mining Officer Rohit Kumar.
