Phagwara: On the complaint lodged by Shehnaj Kumari, the police have registered a case under the SC/ST Act against her mother-in-law Seema Rani and her elder son Jatinder Kumar on the charges of abusing and delivering caste-based remarks and hurting religious sentiments. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the police were investigating the case. No arrest has been made so far. OC

Man, son booked for fraud

Phagwara: The police have registered a case against the father-son duo on the charges of duping Kamaljit Kaur of village Baghana of Rs 4,74,000 on the pretext of giving job to her daughter. SSP, Kapurthala, Vatsala Gupta said Kamaljit told the police that accused Surjit Singh and his son Tania of village Jagatpur-Jattan of Phagwara had promised her to get her daughter recruited in the Punjab Police and taken Rs 4,74,000. She alleged that despite requests, neither the accused did recruit her daughter, nor they return her money. OC

Two held for drug peddling

Phagwara: The police have arrested two drug peddlers and seized 150 intoxicant tablets from their possession on Tuesday night. The accused Jaspreet Dadra and Raja, both residents of village Dhak Pandori near Phagwara, were nabbed at a check-point near the Khalwara turn when they were coming on a bike bearing registration number PB-36C-5327. The police have also impounded their bike. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against them. OC

Two held with intoxicants

Phagwara: The police have arrested two persons on the charge of selling intoxicant tablets. Investigating officer Dilbag Singh said 100 intoxicant tablets were seized from the possession of accused Hardev Kumar, alias Happy, of Mohalla Arjan Nagar, Nakodar, and Tajinder Kumar of Mohala Guru Nanak Pura, Nakodar. A case under section the NDPS Act had been registered against them. OC

Woman among 4 booked for theft

Phagwara: The police have booked four persons, including a woman, on the charges of theft, criminal trespass, and rioting. The accused has been identified as Sunil Kumar, alias Nikoo, of Mohalla Vada Mehatpur, his wife Anu, Menu and Jinder. Pawan Kumar of Sango Wal village complained to the police that the accused encroached on his house in Vada Mohalla and stole items. A case has been registered against the accused. OC

3 Shops Burgled at Phagwara

Phagwara: Three shops were reportedly burgled on Tuesday night in the industrial area here. The burglars entered Raj Medical Hall,Taneja Medical Shop and Kaushal General Store after breaking the lock of their shutters and took away cash and valuable goods.
