Jalandhar, January 13
While tracking a recent theft incident in which jewellery and cash amounting to lakhs were stolen from a local resident’s house, the Navi Baradari police today arrested a school dropout and a college dropout who were involved in several snatching and theft incidents.
On December 28 last year Sukhbir Singh, a resident of Govindgarh, had filed a case with the police regarding a robbery that took place at his house on the day when he and his family members were away to Nakodar. The police were on toes to nab culprits in the case.
ADCP D Sudarvizhi while addressing mediapersons said the suspects were arrested by ASI Manoharlal and his team near Guru Nanakpur East today.
“At a checkpost on the Guru Nanak Pura road, the suspects tried to run after seeing the police. However, the police managed to arrest them after a chase,” the ADCP said.
The duo have been identified as Deepak (28), alias Deepa, a school dropout, and Navjeet Kumar (34), a college dropout, both residents of Bolina, here.
They confessed about the theft and also admitted their involvement in several theft incidents that occurred last year, including a case of theft at a temple. A case has been registered against them under Sections 454 and 380 of the IPC at the Navi Baradari police station. — TNS
