Kapurthala, June 11
A team of the district police on Friday arrested two persons from the area falling under the Rawalpindi police station and Kotwali Kapurthala and seized 50 gm of opium and intoxicant tablets from them in separate cases.
The arrested persons have been identified as Rajwant Singh, alias Raju, a resident of Khassan, Bholath and Sameer Mohamad of Palahi village in Phagwara.
SSP Kapurthala Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said in a press release that in the first case a prisoner Rajwant Singh, alias Raju, was arrested for smuggling drugs into the jail while on his way back after being discharged from the hospital.
Jail security guards got suspicious when they found that he had a bloated stomach and was using a walker as his leg was injured. They called the police party of Kotwali Police station and during search the police seized 515 drug tablets, 150-gm tobacco and Rs 800. The police have registered a case under Section 22 of the NDPS Act. In the second case, cops of the Rawalpindi police station during checking on T-point Bhogpur to GNA University Bhogur road intercepted drug smuggler Sameer Mohammad.
The accused threw a packet and tried to run from the spot but the police party captured the accused and during search 50 gm of opium was seized from him. A case under Section 18 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.
