Two nabbed with 120 gm of heroin

The city police have arrested two drug smugglers and recovered 120 gm of heroin from their possession.
Giving details, the police said the drive to nab culprits involved in drug smuggling had been intensified. The police said as a part of the drive, checking was conducted on the Verka Milk Plant service road. During checking, the police saw a person approaching on foot from the Kartarpur side.
“On noticing a team of cops, the individual took a sudden U-turn and discarded a small polythene bag. Upon inspecting the bag, the police recovered 70 gm of heroin from it,” the police said, while adding that acting swiftly the person was arrested. The suspect was identified as Mandeep Singh, alias Raju, a resident of Chak Jinda village in Jalandhar district.
An FIR under Sections 21, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect at the Division No. 1 police station. “During investigation, the suspect revealed that another person identified as Hardeep Singh, alias Perry, a resident of New Arora Colony in Mithapur village here, is involved in drug peddling. He has been arrested and 50 gm of heroin recovered from him,” the police said.
Mandeep Singh had no criminal history whereas two FIRs under provisions of the NDPS Act were already registered against Hardeep in Tarn Taran, the police said.
