In a devastating accident near the TV Centre, close to Nakodar Chowk in the wee hours of the morning, two young men lost their lives when their scooter was struck by a four-wheeler and subsequently run over by a speeding SUV.

The victims, identified as 31-year-old Pankaj and 30-year-old Mohit, both residents of Basti Nau in Jalandhar West, were returning home from a birthday party when the fatal incident occurred around 2 am.

According to SHO Hardev Singh of Division Number 4, the two were travelling on a scooter along with their two friends, who were riding separately on a motorcycle. As they approached Sharanjit Hospital near TV Centre, a vehicle hit their scooter, causing them to fall onto the road. Moments later, a Bolero following closely behind ran over them, killing them instantly.

A police team shortly arrived at the scene, but both men had succumbed to their injuries within minutes of the impact.

The police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the BNS. While the SUV has been seized, its driver managed to flee the scene.

“We are currently working to trace the driver and also trying to determine the identity of the vehicle that initially hit the scooter. Further investigation is underway and the accused driver will be arrested soon”, said the SHO.

Meanwhile, the tragic deaths have left the victims' families and friends in shock. Reports indicate that both men belonged to well-established business families. Mohit, who was his parents' only son, owned 'Mohit Sports,' a sports shop in Basti Nau. Pankaj’s father runs an import-export business in Nijatam Nagar. Pankaj had been married just three months ago.

Moreover, the accident has again raised serious concerns about road safety in the city. Residents are urging the authorities to enforce stricter traffic regulations and enhance road surveillance to prevent such fatal incidents in the future.
