US deportation: Jalandhar youth paid Rs 45 lakh to agent, was arrested on Mexico border

Two other youths from Phillaur and Phagwara return to their homes

Three youths, one from Goraya, one from Bilga, and one from Kirpalpur village near Phagwara, who were deported from the US, were received by the police at Amritsar airport late Saturday night.

They were brought back by the police to their residences and handed over to their families in the early hours of Sunday.

SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said a team of Phillaur Police handed over Goraya resident Pardeep Bassi to his mother.

Upon visiting Pardeep's house in New Market Goraya, it was found locked.

Social activist MP Singh Goraya told The Tribune that Pardeep was residing with his widowed mother, Surinder Kaur, as his brother was settled in Canada.

He stated that Pardeep went to the USA after paying Rs 45 lakh to a travel agent only a few months back and was apprehended near Mexico while crossing the border.

The SSP said a police team also brought another deported youth, Amit Badhan, from Amritsar airport and handed him over to his family in Bilga (Phillaur) on Sunday morning.

In Phagwara, SSP Gaurav Toora said the Satnampura Police team brought a deported youth, Ankush Kailey, from Amritsar airport and handed him over to his family members in Kirpalpur village near Phagwara on Sunday morning.

Upon visiting Ankush's residence, his father Hans Raj, a labourer, did not disclose any procedure adopted by him to send his son abroad.

He only stated that his close relative made arrangements to send his son to the US. Phagwara SP Rupinder Bhatti said further investigation is underway in the matter.
