The Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday arrested a person for demanding a bribe of Rs 1 lakh in the name of tehsildar and manager of Phagwara Fard Kendra. The arrested individual has been identified as Pardeep Kumar, a resident of Khalwara colony here.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said a case has been registered against the said accused on an online complaint lodged by Manjit Singh, a resident of village Madhopur in tehsil Phagwara on the Chief Minister anti-corruption action line.
He added that the complainant had alleged that Pardeep demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 1 lakh in a revenue case regarding mutation of ancestral land as his wife has submitted an application to the tehsildar who has marked it to the concerned patwari. The accused assured the complainant to accomplish the task and told him that the tehsildar and fard kendra manager had demanded Rs 1 lakh as a bribe in this regard. The complainant also made a recording of the demand raised by Pardeep while demanding money and submitted to the VB as an evidence.
In this regard, the Jalandhar VB conducted an investigation and found the allegations made as true. On the basis of this report, the accused has been arrested and a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against him.
