Veggie, fruit prices fixed in Jalandhar, Kapurthala

Kapurthala Deputy Commissioner Deepti Uppal and Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Sunday issued official orders, fixing rates of vegetables and fruits to be sold in retail in Kapurthala and Jalandhar districts, respectively.

The order said, “People’s good health is important and they should get fresh vegetables and fruits amid the curfew imposed in the state. It has been observed that there is no uniformity in the prices of vegetables and fruits and the general public is suffering.”

It said the district administration has decided to fix rates of vegetables and fruits on a daily basis and has issued a rate list for March 29. It said anybody selling vegetable and fruits more than the fixed rates would be prosecuted as per law and his curfew pass will be cancelled.

The fixed prices of vegetables are: Potato Rs 30/kg, onion Rs 40/kg, tomato Rs 60/kg, cauliflower Rs 25/kg, ginger Rs 100/kg, garlic Rs 125/kg, bottle gourd Rs 20/kg, cucumber Rs 20/kg, peas Rs 60/kg, carrot Rs 45/kg, green chilies Rs 75/kg and lemon Rs 60/kg.

Prices of fruits fixed by the administration are: Kinnow Rs 30/kg, banana Rs 60/dozen, papaya Rs 25/kg, grapes Rs 55/kg, pineapple Rs 30/kg and apple Rs 100/kg. The prices may vary from time to time.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police Kapurthala Satinder Singh on Sunday distributed 7,000 food packets to needy persons in various towns such as Phagwara, Kapurthala, Bholath, Sultanpur Lodhi and Begowal. Several social organisations are assisting the administration in the drive. The SSP said 118 persons had been arrested on the charges of violation of curfew in the Kapurthala district and 59 FIRs had been registered against the violators. Nakodar Assistant Superintendent of Police Vatsala Gupta said 1,500 food packets were distributed to the needy persons in Nakodar on Sunday.
