Vet awarded for exemplary work

Hoshiarpur: Dr Rana Preet Gill, a veterinary officer, was on Wednesday honoured by the district administration, Hoshiarpur, for her contribution towards the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ scheme of which she was nominated as the district’s coordinator. She has been working with the area’s women and child development cell for the past three years and also spearheads the campaign of women empowerment in by giving lectures on women emanicipation in the programmes conducted. She has also been vocal about various issues related to girl child and female foeticide in her writings. Her articles and short stories have been published in many national newspapers, including The Tribune, and also in international journals. OC

property dispute: MAN kills self

Phagwara: Harjinder Singh (45), a resident of Bhagatpura locality, reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous tablets at his residence on Tuesday. SHO Usha Rani said stress was said to be the cause behind taking the extreme step. Sarabjit Kaur, wife of the deceased, told the police here on Wednesday that Balbir Singh, father of the deceased, refused to give the share of the property to the deceased, who took the extreme step after feeling humiliated over it . The police have registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against Balbir Singh who is at large. OC
