A woman from CRP Colony in Phagwara has lodged a police complaint alleging defamation and the use of objectionable language by a neighbour on social media. The matter is under investigation, with no arrests made so far.

SHO City, Usha Rani, confirmed the development, stating that Narinderjit Kaur, a resident of CRP Colony, has filed a complaint against Surlekha Rani, who also lives in the same locality. The complaint alleges that Surlekha Rani made objectionable and defamatory remarks about her on social media platforms.

Following the complaint, a case has been registered under Sections 294 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which relate to the use of obscene language in public and criminal defamation, respectively.

“We have registered a case based on the complaint received and are examining the evidence, including the social media posts in question,” the SHO said.
