A 37-year-old woman, identified as Varinder Kaur wife of Behrin-based NRI Sulkhan Singh, a resident of Johal village near Goraya, reportedly committed suicide by jumping into a village pond on Tuesday. Her husband told the police that he returned back from Behrin seven months back. He said in his absence (when he remained in Behrin) his wife came in contact with a village youth, Jagdeep, who was keeping bad eye on his wife.
SHO Sukhwinderpal Singh said the victim might had extramarital relations with the youth in the absence of her husband and her lover started blackmailing her when her husband came back from Behrin.
The victim went to locate her 15-year-old son, Harpreet, who went from home and did not turn up even after several hours. Varinder Kaur went to Jagdip’s house also to locate her son where her lover abused and slapped her after threatening her to viral her videos with him on social media. She committed suicide after feeling humiliation by Jagdeep and jumped into the pond. The police pulled her body out of the water and sent to the Civil Hospital for autopsy. A case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered against Jagdeep, who is still at large.
