Phagwara

A young man lost his life after an e-rickshaw was hit by a speeding car near Rihana Jattan near Phagwara last night.

According to the police, a case has been registered under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC against an unidentified driver. The complaint was filed by Dharamjit Singh, a resident of Rihana Jattan, who works as a daily-wage labourer.

Singh said his nephew Amandeep Sharma was returning from his workplace in Bhagwanta village in an e-rickshaw. As the e-rickshaw reached near Rihana Jattan, a red-coloured car reportedly came from the opposite direction and struck the e-rickshaw with great force.

The collision was so intense that Amandeep, who was seated inside the e-rickshaw, suffered severe injuries. Locals and bystanders rushed to help, and he was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital in Bhagwanta for medical treatment. However, doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.

Police officials from Rawalpindi reached the spot soon after receiving the information and recorded statements from witnesses. The car driver fled the scene after the crash, and efforts are underway to trace the vehicle and its owner. The police have initiated an investigation and assured that action will be taken once the accused is identified.

The body of the deceased was handed over to his family after the post-mortem examination.
