A police complaint has been filed in Kapurthala’s Santanpura locality after a Punjab Police Sub-Inspector allegedly attempted to run over a woman with his car following a confrontation on July 30. The incident was captured on CCTV and is under investigation.

According to the victim, Gurpreet Kaur alias Preeti, she was leaving her home on a scooter when SI Baljeet Singh, currently posted at a police station in Jalandhar, called her to a nearby plot. Upon arrival, she found Baljeet Singh and another man, Nishan Singh, allegedly consuming alcohol.

She alleged that the Sub-Inspector made lewd remarks toward her. When she protested, he threw a glass filled with liquor in her face. Disturbed by the incident, she immediately contacted the police to report the assault.

Before police arrived, the two men attempted to flee the scene in a car. When the woman tried to stop them, the vehicle was allegedly driven at high speed in an attempt to run her over.

She sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the civil hospital. Her four-year-old son, who was with her, narrowly escaped harm.

Further, the woman claimed she had been in a live-in relationship with a now-deceased police inspector and that SI Baljeet Singh had developed an inappropriate interest in her, leading to ongoing harassment.

SI Baljeet Singh could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.

Meanwhile, DSP Deepkaran Singh confirmed that both parties have submitted written complaints and that an investigation is under way. “Appropriate action will be taken once the inquiry is complete,” he said.
