Woman shot at in Kapurthala; 6 men booked

Six men on motorcycles opened fire at a woman here on Thursday evening leaving her injured.

The 35-year-old Manpreet Kaur, a resident of Aujla Road, was rushed to the Civil Hospital. Her condition is said to be stable.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 5.30 p.m. when Manpreet was returning home from work. The men on motorcycles approached her and fired shots. A bullet pierced her thigh. The assailants fled the scene.

On receiving information, PCR in-charge Charanjit Singh and his team reached the spot and shifted the injured woman to hospital. DSP (Sub-Division) Sheetal Singh, who also arrived at the site, said the woman had sustained a gunshot wound to her thigh and that her condition was stable.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman had been living separately from her husband for several years and had an ongoing dispute with one Suraj Thapar. In her statement to the police, Manpreet alleged that Suraj, a resident of Daburji village, had fired at her.

Acting on her complaint, police teams from the City police station have launched raids to arrest Suraj and his accomplices.

The police are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and have intensified checks to trace the suspects.

The Kapurthala police have registered a case against the men under Section 109 of the BNS and Arms Act.
