Threatening to commit suicide at a district-level function in the city during the Republic Day celebrations proved a costly mistake for a woman when the police took her into custody.
Devdutt Sharma, DSP (City), said a city-resident Paramjit Kaur, along with some of her companions, staged a sit-in in front of the Mini Secretariat here, during which they raised slogans against the police and the Punjab Government.
He said the police received information that the woman had posted a video on social media in which threatened to commit suicide at the district-level Republic Day function. He said the police immediately reached the spot and took the woman into custody.
He said the woman had a property dispute with her husband. The DSP said she posted the video to put pressure on the police to take action in this connection. The DSP said the police had taken the woman into custody and whatever action was necessary, would be taken against her. He said no one would be allowed to disturb peace in the city.
Meanwhile, Paramjit Kaur said she had a property dispute with her husband for a long time and had complained about this to the district police chief and other officials, but all her pleas had gone unheard. She demanded justice from the police in this connection.
