Health and Family Welfare Minister Chetan Singh Jauramajra on Wednesday said the work on the proposed medical college at Kapurthala would start soon.

On a visit to the Civil Hospital here, the minister said the stage was all set for the launch of ‘Mohalla clinics’ by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on August 15, which would provide medical facilities to the common man on their doorsteps.

On a pilot basis under the first phase, 75 clinics would be operational, wherein patients who need minor surgeries would be catered to and 40 types of medical tests would be conducted.

The minister visited the Civil Hospital along with Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal and Senior Superintendent of Police Rajbachan Singh Sandhu and took stock of the infrastructure and the facilities extended to the patients.

The minister said he was visiting the whole state to take stock of the available medical facilities and staff so that the required steps could be taken for improvement. Earlier, the Health Minister received a guard of honour by a contingent of the Punjab Police.

Prominent among those present on the occasion were Aam Aadmi Party Kapurthala halqa incharge Manju Rana, Bholath incharge Ranjit Singh, party leaders Gursharan Singh Kapoor, Gurpal Singh, Harji Mann, Civil Surgeon Dr Gurinderbir Kaur and SMP Dr Sandeep Dhawan.

‘Fill vacant posts’

Phagwara: AAP leader Harji Maan on Wednesday submitted a memorandum to the Health Minister and urged him to fill 26 vacant posts in the 100-bed Civil Hospital, Phagwara, immediately to improve the health services in the district. He also asked the minister to expedite the process to set up a trauma centre and 30-bed mother-child care centre at Phagwara.
