A contract worker at the Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, died under mysterious circumstances on Monday afternoon, with sources indicating the cause may have been electrocution. The incident occurred around 11 am in the factory’s furnishing workshop, where the worker reportedly collapsed while on duty.
The deceased has been identified as Daler Singh (21) of Muradpur village. He was employed by RCF contractor Rampal. Co-workers rushed Daler to the RCF hospital after he fell unconscious. The on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
While sources within the factory have claimed that the worker came into contact with a live electrical source, RCF officials have not confirmed electrocution as the cause of death. In a statement, RCF Senior Public Relations Officer Anuj Kumar acknowledged the death, stating that the worker had complained of uneasiness before collapsing. “Initial findings suggest he experienced discomfort, after which he was taken to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” said Kumar.
Meanwhile, ASI Davinder Pal, in-charge of Bhullana police outpost, said the police have taken custody of the body for investigation. “We are recording statements from the family. Preliminary accounts and statements suggest the death by electric shock, but we are awaiting the post-mortem report for confirmation,” ASI Pal stated.
The body has been sent to the Kapurthala Civil Hospital for the post-mortem examination. The report is expected to determine the exact cause of death. If electrocution is confirmed, questions may arise regarding safety protocols and the responsibilities of both the contractor and RCF management.
