Workshop on STEM
Jalandhar: A workshop on ‘STEM’, that stands for the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, was organised at Mayor World School by an organisation, ‘Butterfly Edufields’. STEM education, is the learning of these STEM subjects through an integrated approach; one that offers hands-on and relevant learning experiences. The resource persons, Sirikonda Nikhil Teja and Karan Singh discussed various ways to make science and mathematics interesting for students, by incorporating various tricks and activities while transacting different scientific and mathematical concepts at the classroom. The workshop was attended by all educators teaching science and mathematics from Class I to XII. The educators were divided into groups wherein they made use of these kits and made various models namely human eye and its functioning, hydraulic lift, projectile launcher, balanced diet and different types of triangles, Pythagoras theorem, trigonometry, congruency of triangles and factorisation.
Faculty development programme
Jalandhar: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya has been organising a one-week Faculty Development Programme on ‘Capacity Building and Enhancement in Higher Education’ under DBT Star College Scheme. The inaugural session of the fourth day was addressed by Major Gen GG Dwivedi, Prof, the Department of West Asian Studies and North African Studies, Aligarh Muslim University. The topic of his talk was Reimagining Academic Leadership, Redefining the Role of a Teacher. In his talk, he emphasised that how a teacher should be able to guide and motivate his students and play the role of a leader in students’ life. A leader is the one who inspires ordinary people to achieve extraordinary. He also enlisted the role of the teacher as a transformer, a trailblazer and shaper of the destiny of a nation. A session was also conducted by Pallavi Khanna, clinical psychologist, NIT, Jalandhar.
Inter-college rugby meet
Jalandhar: Lyallpur Khalsa College bagged the first rank in the inter-college rugby competition at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Principal of the college, Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra, congratulated the victorious students and their HoD Dr Jaspal Singh, team in-charge, Prof Mohan Singh, coach and staff members. The principal said the college had already won the overall general sports championship trophy of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar for 24 times. Balbir Kaur, president governing council, Dr Jaspal Singh, HoD, physical education and Dr SS Bains, dean, sports, congratulated the members of the team.
