Jalandhar: Hiten Khurana, a student of BVoc (Contemporary Forms of Dance) (Sem IV) has brought laurels to Apeejay College of Fine Arts by creating a world record of the highest number of contemporary dance spins in 30 minutes. He, by performing 2,250 spins in 30 minutes, got himself a place in the International Book of Records. He has the World’s Greatest Record and Nav Bharat Rashtriya Gyanpath Award to his credit also for the same achievement. Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra congratulated Hitin Khurana for his achievement in the field of dance. She also praised the efforts of faculty of the Department of Dance, which has been providing re owned dances for the past decades.
Free of Cost Summer Camp
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya is organising a free of cost summer camp like every year to make the holiday time of students more creative and informative so that they can channelise their energy in creative purposes. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the students for this camp. Various departments of the college namely PG Department of English, PG Department of Fine Arts, PG Department of Computer Science and Applications, Department of Dance, PG Department of Cosmetology as well as Department of Retail Management, Department of Textile and Apparel Technology, Department of Animation, Nutrition, Exercise and Health etc. running under DDU Kaushal Kendra have organised various activities for the students of the college as well as outside students. During this camp where students will learn spoken English, art and craft, personality development, IT skills, they will also be explained about basics of animation, beauty care, dance, basics of fashion designing and textile, yoga as well as diet counselling etc. Principal Prof Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that every year summer camps are organised by KMV with the idea of providing a perfect platform to the creativity of the students and to expand the circle of their knowledge. She further maintained that this summer camp will surely be able to provide a great increase in the knowledge of the students while getting high level information.
Pedal of better Health
To increase health awareness children cycled together at DIPS College of Education Rarra morr. Red Ribbon Club association with NSS Club organised this activity. In this, the students together cycled with friends in and around the college campus. During this, the members of the NSS club told the students that the cycle is not only a thing for small children to play, but elders can also take advantage of it by driving it. Cycling removes many diseases and it helps to overcome the stress of daily life. The teachers told the children that togetherness not only increases the spirit to compete, achieve success but also increases self-confidence. We are busy with our work and studies throughout the day, so we do not get a chance to exercise, so cycling for half or an hour daily gives exercise to the whole body. Principal Jyoti Gupta said that cycling not only keeps you physically fit but it is also environment and eco-friendly. Due to this less petrol is used and air, noise pollution is also less.
‘Donate blood, save lives’
Under the celebrations of Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (celebrating the 75 years of Indian Independence), the NSS department of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, Jalandhar, celebrated the World Blood Donor Day. This was celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm as per the directions of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. To mark the celebrations, an oath-taking ceremony was organised and the NSS volunteers were also shown a documentary in this regards. Principal Dr Navjot apprised the students about the importance of blood donation and also inspired them to voluntarily donate blood. She also explained that by donating blood, we can not only save the life of a dying person but can also give the noble gift of a new life. ‘Khelo India youth games’
Two students from Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar, were a part of the basketball team which received the second position in “Khelo India” Youth Games. Arshjot and Vishal Sharma, who are students of Class XII participated in the inter-state tournament held at “Tau Devi Lal Stadium” in Panchkula, Haryana. The Punjab team was successful in getting to the second position. Principal Dr Rashmi Vij applauded the efforts of the students and congratulated them and their coach Bhupinder Singh for their outstanding achievement.
FDP concludes at IKGPTU
A Faculty Development Programme on the subject “Green Energy and Power Systems” organised by the Department of Electrical Engineering at IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKG PTU) has been completed. A total of 59 participants from various educational institutions across the country participated in this programme sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). In the closing ceremony, Dean Academic Prof (Dr) Vikas Chawla was the chief guest and Dr Balkar Singh, Director College Development, participated as a special guest. Dean Planning and External Planning Prof (Dr) Y S Brar told in the progress report of the department that the graph of latest trends in green energy sector has increased in North India recently. He inspired everyone to join them by mentioning the work done by experts on projects like solar photo voltaics, biomass and small hydro. In the first two days of the programme, experts elaborated on Power System Optimisation and modern heuristic techniques for the benefit of young researchers. Researchers interacting with experts not only found solutions to their research problems but also identified areas of future research work. A special session on New Education Policy was held by Dr Rajiv Chauhan, Senior Faculty of the University, while the Head of the Department, Dr Gagandeep Kaur, spoke on Green Energy and Electricity System. Dr Naveen Kumar Sharma, the convener of the programme, read the vote of thanks at the end.
World Blood Donor Day observed
Eklavya School, Jalandhar, observed World Blood Donor Day. The objective of commemoration of this day to raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion and also to highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems. JK Gupta, Chairman of Eklavya School, said, ”World Blood Donor Day is observed every year to spread awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion. The day honours the crucial contribution that voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems.” Biology Educator Jasleen Kaur explained about the components of blood and benefits of donating the blood to the students. She said,” Blood Donation is a divine donation! Blood is the second largest part of the human body after water. This red fluid is the essence of human life. Red blood cells, plasma and platelets are the lifelines for medical treatments all over the globe, therefore it became a necessity to maintain the constant blood supply and keeping this flow ongoing is a serious concern.” Seema Handa, Director said, “Donating blood regularly is beneficial to prevent and reduce heart attacks and liver ailment.” Educator Gaurav Mehandiratta gave an activity to senior school students. The students made different posters on Blood Donation Day. Komal Arora, Principal, said, ”The donated blood helps save the lives of people who have lost a lot of blood due to some illness or accident. Through blood donation, the donor also goes through a preliminary health check-up and complete diagnosis that makes the donor aware of the level of hemoglobin, iron, cholesterol, and other components as well.”
Online pledge on blood donation
Lyallpur Khalsa College Jalandhar is committed for the welfare of society and keeps organising awareness programmes. NSS unit of Lyallpur Khalsa College organised an online Pledge Taking Ceremony to celebrate World Blood Donors Day. Principal Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra was the chief guest of the event. He said every year many people die because they did not get blood on time. He motivated volunteers and students to donate blood. He also explained benefits of blood donation to one’’s body. Chief Program Officer Prof. Satpal Singh read out the names of volunteers who regularly donate blood. Then, he, volunteers, and students took pledge to donate blood and motivate others to donate blood without discrimination. There were more than 75 attendants in the event.
Digital Marketing Training organised
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s Placement Cell organised a free of cost Digital Marketing Employability Skills Training with the trainers of Mahindra group to impart training of the required skillset and processes. This specialised Hands-on Training programme for KMV students aimed at improving the employability skills of the students in the domain of Digital Marketing. KMV students learnt a lot and were greatly benefitted by this excellent opportunity provided to them free of cost for 45 hours from the industry professionals. The students not only learnt various modules of digital marketing domain including Search Engine Optimisation Affiliate / Influencer Marketing and Freelancing Career in Digital Marketing but also got the practical exposure solving daily tasks. This Employability Skills Enhancement Programme is going to be quite relevant in the working environment as they move out of the campus for job placements. Hundred students participated in this training programme with full zeal and enthusiasm. Principal Prof. Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that these kinds of programs are a regular feature at KMV as KMV always strives to impart practical skills to the students so that the students can excel in this competitive world.
Workshop on Tips and Tricks
Under the guidance and encouraging support of Principal Prof Ajay Sareen, Youth Welfare Department and PG Hindi Department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organised one-day workshop on the topic, “Tips and Tricks for Different Cultural Items.” Eminent speaker and writer Dr M Rafi was invited as a Resource Person for the event. Principal Prof Ajay Sareen welcomed the speaker by giving a planter and gift. Dr Jyoti Gogia, Head, PG Department of Hindi started the workshop by giving a brief introduction of Dr Rafi Navroop, Dean Youth Welfare Department gave a formal welcome to the speaker. Dr Rafi began his talk by showing a few incidents from his difficult childhood and inspired the students to never give up in life. He further added that no matter how terrible the circumstances might be in someone’s life but with education and determination anything can be achieved. Then he shared various techniques of drama, poetry and debate and invited some students from the audience to give them a firsthand experience of his tips and tricks for different cultural items. Dr Prem Sagar, Head Department of Music Vocal dedicated a song in praise of Dr Rafi which was relished by all. Principal Sareen appreciated the efforts of Youth Welfare Department and Hindi Department for their efforts. She said art is an important part of our life. She said such workshops make our student feel more confident and holistically developed. Navroop concluded the workshop by giving vote of thanks.
DAV students perform yoga
Students of Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar, performed yoga at the ‘Jung-e-Azadi’ Memorial, Kartarpur, as per the directions from the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Under the ongoing ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, had sent a proposal to perform yoga at a historical monument or an iconic site ahead of ‘International Day of Yoga’ which falls on June 21. With the approval of Principal Dr Rashmi Vij, the students along with the teachers performed yoga in the lawns outside the memorial building. The students saw the various exhibits in the memorial and watched a movie based on the struggle for freedom. This acquainted them with the supreme sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. The students were accompanied by the yoga coach Rupa Basak, Preeti Khehra, the incharge of yoga activity, Vinod Sharma, Sports in charge, Munish and others from the Sports department.
