The 8th International Yoga Day was observed by various educational institutions in Jalandhar and its periphery. Yoga instructors demonstrated various asanas during mass events held in some places.
Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg
Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, joined 177 member states across the world to celebrate Yoga Day. The school celebrated the occasion by organising a mass yoga session for the students, parents, alumni and teachers. The one-hour yoga session was held from 6.30 to 7.30 am. The school yoga club under the guidance of the yoga teacher Ruchika led the session elaborating on each asana and its benefit and guiding the performance of the group with effortless ease and grace.
Kamla Nehru College of Edu for Women, Phagwara
The college organised a workshop on ‘International Yoga Day’ under the guidance of Dr Harvinder Kaur, Principal of the college. The workshop was organised in collaboration with Natraj Dance Academy, Phagwara. The team members of the academy – Sahil, Lavisha and Komal –gave a detailed information on various asanas, aerobics, breathing exercises and meditation. The students and teachers participated in the workshop and performed various exercises effectively.
Nobel School
The event for International Yoga Day was organised at the iconic site by performing mass yoga at Jung- e- Azaadi War Memorial at Kartarpur. Nobel School was one among the participating schools. Different postures were performed by one and all present. The students were escorted by Deepika and Suman. After the closing of the event, the students were provided refreshments on behalf of the management.
Tagore’s International Smart School
Tagore’s International Smart School observed International Yoga Day in which students and teachers performed different asanas along with laughing and clapping therapy with great enthusiasm and zeal. Students from Nursery to Class XII demonstrated various asanas followed by ‘Omkar’ chanting.
CJS Public School
Students of Classes I to XII participated along with their family members to make this a grand event. The students performed asanas for mental and physical development of body. Teachers and students also participated in mass yoga as organised in Jung-E- Azadi memorial in Kartarpur.
St Soldier institutions
International Yoga Day was celebrated by St Soldier Group of Institutions in all schools and colleges. Special camps were organised on the 8th International Yoga Day, during which students and teachers understood the importance of yoga by performing different postures. During this, the directors and principals of all colleges and schools, while doing yoga activities themselves, gave information about what is yoga, rules of yoga, types of yoga and yoga asanas to the students.
Sanskriti KMV School
Sanskriti KMV School observed the day with much enthusiasm supporting its global theme — Yoga for Humanity. School Principal, staff and students joined for yoga session promoting the concern for good health and humanity. Rachna Monga, Principal, said despite of our busy schedules, physical fitness should always be the priority for all and yoga is the best way to keep oneself physically, emotionally and psychologically strong.
Innocent Hearts Group
Under the aegis of the Disha-an Initiative run by Bowry Memorial Educational and Medical Trust, a session on fitness through yoga was organised at Innocent Hearts School, Green Model Town. It was organised for both teaching and non-teaching staff of Innocent Hearts. Parents and students also participated in the yoga session. It was conducted by the certified yoga trainers.
PCM SD College for Women
The Department of Yoga and Meditation and NSS units of PCM SD College for Women celebrated the day on both online and offline mode. Yoga Guru Shewtank Anand highlighted the relevance of celebrating the day by telling about the Gorakh Nath tradition of yoga. He also practically demonstrated yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation.
IK Gujral PTU
On the occasion celebrations, the Nirog Yuva Yoga Centre was rejuvenated, expended and opened for university students in a new form. It is worth to mention that “Nirog Yuva Yoga Centre” has already been established near the gym area in the university campus, which has been recently expanded by connecting it to the open area in view of the increasing demand of the students.
Lyallpur Khalsa College (W)
The 2nd Punjab Girls Battalion NCC of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women participated in celebrations under the directions of Commanding Officer Col Narinder Toor and guidance of ANO Lt Rupali Razdan. The students performed various asanas and expanded the awareness of doing yoga and inculcating it in our daily lives.
DIPS College
To make children and teachers health conscious in today’s life, a one-day yoga camp was organised for students and teachers at DIPS College of Education and DIPS Polytechnic on International Yoga Day. During the camp, yoga teachers conducted various yoga activities for the children and staff members to stay away from stress.
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya
The event was organised jointly by the Departments of NCC, Student Welfare and NSS. Satyavart Arya from University of Patanjali, Haridwar, conducted the yoga session. It was a refreshing and exhilarating experience for all who were a part of the session. Arya demonstrated various yoga exercises to the students that would aid the students in increasing their concentration power and will lead them to live a happy and stress free life.
Hansraj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya
Hansraj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated the day in collaboration with Ministry of Aayush and 2 Pb Girls Battalion, NCC. Brig IS Bhalla, Group Commander and CO 2 Pb Battalion NCC Col. NPS Toor formed a part of the celebration along with 350 cadets, ex-cadets, NSS Volunteers, students from Sports Department and faculty and staff of HMV. Yoga Guru Dheeraj Kumar made the participants perform various asanas.
CT Group of Institutions
A one-hour yoga session was held in which the guest trainer Rajan Syal from Parindey academy motivated the staff members to opt for yoga. CT Group of Institutions also organised an offline yoga session with resource person Deepali from Divine Yoga Centre.
Eklavya School
Eklavya School observed a virtual Yoga day. The celebration started with an online class of yoga in which all staff members, students along with their parents participated energetically. After that an online speech was presented by an educator Sandeep Sharma in which he explained the importance of practicing yoga daily.
Lyallpur Khalsa College
Around 100 students, volunteers, cadets and teachers from the college participated in this event which was led by the Principal of the College, Dr Gurpinder Singh Samra along with Kamal Kumar Jassal, who is a yoga instructor and has done his specialisation in yoga from West Indies. Jassal introduced the students and faculty to various asanas that make the body strong and flexible. He said as health improves with yoga, the mind too is renewed with confidence.
Dr BR Ambedkar, NIT
The 8th International Day of Yoga was celebrated by the Yoga & Meditation Club at Dr BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT) by organising the yoga, pranayama and meditation session with a view to educate faculty, staff and students. Raman Wadhwa, Faculty Sri Sri Yoga Kapurthala, and Archana Sukhija, Faculty Art of Living, have been invited for conducting the common yoga protocol during the celebration. They briefed the fundamental definition of yoga and its importance to health and wellness to professionals. The importance of deep breathing for maintaining good health was also emphasised.
Hindu Kanya College, K’thala
A yoga session was organised at Hindu Kanya College, Kapurthala, to mark International Yoga Day. All the teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the college participated in the event. The yoga workshop was conducted under the guidance of Praveen, State communication in charge of Mahila Patanjali Yogpeeth in collaboration with co-district in charge Alka Kamboj and mentor Seema Sangar.
Police DAV Public School
The day was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm and fervour. Under the guidance of the City Coordinator, Principal Dr Rashmi Vij, yoga was performed simultaneously at ‘Jang E Azadi’ Memorial, Kartarpur and Police Memorial, PAP Campus, Jalandhar. Around 500 students and 100 teachers from 28 schools of the city, performed yoga at ‘Jang E Azadi’ Memorial, Kartarpur. The organisation of the event was done by Police DAV Public School. About 300 students and 50 teachers from Police DAV Public School, Jalandhar, practised yoga at Police Memorial, PAP Campus, Jalandhar under the guidance of the yoga coach Rupa Basak and the Yoga Activity Incharge Preeti Khehra.
Scholar Public School, Nawanshahr
Scholar Public School, Jadla in Nawanshahr, observed International Yoga Day with fervour. Yoga instructors were especially invited for the same to teach the students. As many as 14 schools of the district participated in the event. Students and teachers from these schools took part with much enthusiasm. Puja Sharda, the school principal said fitness should be the priority for everyone. “Yoga is the best way to keep ourselves physically and psychology fit,” she added.
