Youth arrested with 1 kg opium

Jalandhar, February 23

The Jalandhar Police Commissionerate has arrested a youth and recovered 1 kg of opium from his possession.

Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said a police team from the CIA Staff, Jalandhar, was patrolling near Nehar Pulli, Baba Budha Ji Nagar. The police observed a person coming from the Kapurthala roadside carrying a polythene bag.

Sharma said on seeing the police, the suspect tried to flee the spot. On suspicion, the police chased the youth and nabbed him. During search, the police recovered 1 kg of opium from his possession.

The Police Commissioner said the suspect had been identified as Kishan Lal, a resident of Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Nagar.

The CP said a case under Sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered against the suspect at the Basti Bawa Khel police station. No criminal record of the suspect had been traced so far. Further investigations were on in the case.
