A police patrolling team under the supervision of Sub-Inspector Lakhvir Singh arrested a youth and recovered a large quantity of intoxicating tablets and capsules under the Wadala bridge area near Kapurthala on Friday.
The police were conducting a routine checking when they noticed a young man riding a motorcycle without registration number and approaching from the direction of village Phupe.
The police signalled the rider to stop, but instead he turned the motorcycle around and attempted to flee. While speeding away, the motorcycle slipped, causing him to fall. During the fall, two transparent polythene packets dropped from the pocket of his jacket.
The police immediately apprehended the youth and, upon checking the packets, recovered 60 pink-coloured intoxicating tablets and 200 capsules.
During questioning, the accused identified himself as Lavpreet Singh of Ahmedpur, Kapurthala.
A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act.
