Youth gets 13-year jail for molesting minor girl
The Fast Track Special Court has sentenced a youth for 13 years and six months and imposed a fine of Rs 13,500 for attacking Class X student (minor) and her grandmother after being stopped from harassing her. The convict’s mother has also been sentenced for two years.
The victim’s grandmother had complained that the accused used to harass her granddaughter, aged 15 years. On December 12, 2023, the victim reached home from her school at around 4.15 pm. As she was sitting on a cot with her grandmother, accused Manpreet Singh, alias Jadu, of Sataur village trespassed into their house and thrashed the duo. Later, he dragged the victim into the street and molested her, stated the complainant.
Sarabjit Singh, counsel for the complainant, said hearing the arguments, Additional Sessions Judge Anjana, convicted both the accused.
He said Jadu had been convicted under Sections 455, 323, 354D, 506 and 509 of the IPC along with Section 12 of the POCSO Act, while his mother had been held under Sections 506 and 509 of the IPC.
The court has awarded a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the victim under the Punjab Victim or their Dependents Compensation Scheme 2011.
